Las Vegas – The Palms Casino Resort has opened its latest culinary venture, Cathay House, offering authentic Chinese cuisine and dim sum.

As the second Las Vegas location, Cathay House at the Palms will live up to its high reputation and offer healthy and delicious fare. The eatery will also serve dim sum, which are popular and traditional Chinese dishes served in small portions tableside.

“I have been a loyal customer and a big fan of Cathay House for years,” said Palms owner George Maloof.  “We have been anxiously waiting to bring superior Chinese cuisine to our property, and this restaurant just adds to the great list of dining establishments we have at the Palms.”

Led by Executive Chef Henry Garcia, Dim Sum Chef Ping Kwan Lam and Dining Chef Raymond Kwan, the assorted menu offers something for every craving. Guests may delight in popular favorites from orange chicken, lettuce wraps and beef broccoli to jelly fish and salt and pepper pork chops. Main entrée options include spicy clams with wine and supreme steamed chicken. Poached fresh prawns, steamed whole flounder and fish filets in black bean sauce are a sampling of the fresh seafood selections. Hot Pot options consist of sizzling frog, spicy eggplant and mixed mushrooms.  Sui Mai-pork and shrimp dumplings, homemade fish balls, stuffed tofu, chicken feet with special sauce and BBQ pork buns are a few of the fresh dishes of dim sum served tableside.

Guests can choose from an assortment of hot teas including jasmine, pur erh, oolong and chrysanthemum tea or delight in a bottle of Tsing Tao beer.  A complete tea and beverage menu is available upon request.

Described as “a restaurant within a restaurant,” Cathay House is an exclusive space inside 24/7 Café. Conceptualized and designed by Tandem Las Vegas, the restaurant holds a modern Chinese flair featuring a focal, large back wall adorned with large red and black Koi fish appliqués. A custom-created chandelier of Asian parasols anchors the space and suspends from the center ceiling creating a warm and welcoming ambiance for every customer.

Chef Garcia came to the Palms five years ago bringing more than 11 years of experience and his forte of Italian cuisine and fusion concepts.  As Executive Chef for the Palms, Garcia oversees the kitchens of the Bistro Buffet, 24/7 Café, Gardunos, Cathay House and supervises banquets and room service for the property. Before coming to the Palms, Garcia served as a Chef for Station Casinos at various properties where he established the Prime steak program and opened Sonoma Cellar.

Chef Lam came to the United States after working in prestigious restaurants in Hong Kong: Yung Kee Restaurant, Luk Yu Tea House and Sun Bo Shing. Lam eventually landed the role as Dim Sum Chef at the original Cathay House, adding to his culinary experience of more than 40 years.

Chef Kwan has been working in a kitchen for 41 years. Previously, he worked as a Chef at Happy Valley in Los Angeles for seven years before moving to Las Vegas. He went on to Noodle Exchange before becoming a chef at Ping Pang Pong.

Las Vegas (March 25, 2011) – Palms Casino Resort welcomed Jive Records recording artist Britney Spears to Rain Nightclub for two surprise performances on Friday, March 25. The performances were filmed by MTV as part of an upcoming Britney Spears special that will air next week in celebration of her album release.

In front of more than a thousand fans, Spears delivered songs from her latest album, Femme Fatale including the singles, “Hold it Against Me,” “Till the World Ends” and “Big Fat Bass.”

“We are extremely excited to have one of the most iconic artists of all time back at the Palms. Britney’s performances were unbelievable and her fans will never forget this night,” said owner George Maloof. “We have a great relationship with MTV and feel fortunate to be a part of her upcoming special.”

This is not Spears’ first time performing in Rain Nightclub; she stunned fans with an unannounced performance in 2003.

DJ Pauly D, the exclusive Vegas resident DJ for the Palms, warmed up the crowd and kicked off the evening with his masterful beats and explosive sounds for club goers before Spears took the stage.

Femme Fatale is Spears’ seventh studio album and will be released on March 29.

PALMS CASINO RESORT RECOGNIZED AS HAVING SLOT PAYOUTS LOOSER THAN THE LAS VEGAS STRIP AND OTHER LOCAL JURISDICTIONS
Independent survey by the Las Vegas Advisor indicates Palms’ slots and video poker returns are better than the average payback percentages in Nevada

Las Vegas – Palms Casino Resort was recently part of an independent slot machine study conducted by the Las Vegas Advisor in accordance with the 2009-2010 Gaming Revenue Report. Based on the findings, the Palms’ slots and video poker payouts are better than the average of any reporting area in Nevada.

The Palms historically has been cited by several outside sources in surveys and reports to have higher payback percentages than Nevada norms. To further support the widely-held perception, Palms Casino Resort requested a study to investigate and prove those claims correct.

“Based on what has been cited in other similar studies, it is fair for the Palms to claim its slots are 28.278 percent looser than Clark County and 36.856 percent looser than the Strip,” said Las Vegas Advisor publisher Anthony Curtis. “We have consistently ranked Palms at or near the top of previous reports we have published when comparing data, and our research further supports the reports’ conclusion.”

The comparison was made for the category designated by the Gaming Control Board as the win percentage for “Total Slot Machines.” The 12-month period running Sept. 1, 2009 to Aug. 31, 2010 was used from both the Gaming Control Board report and the Palms’ data.

“Finally, all of the recognitions we have received for having loose slots have been verified by the Las Vegas Advisor,” said Palms owner George Maloof. “We are proud to offer a fun and exciting place for our guests to play their favorite games while seeing high-paying outcomes.”

The Palms recently refreshed its casino floor with upgrades that include new carpet, chairs, laminates on the machines as well as new bases and signage. To commemorate its recent modifications, the Palms invites the public to be part of a champagne and cake celebration in The Lounge from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, guests may play slots, video poker or video keno as part of a random cash giveaway with 180 winners selected each day.

The Palms is also rolling out a comprehensive advertising campaign to promote the results of the slot payout rankings which includes a brand new television commercial premiering during football games on Thanksgiving Day.
